How the Brokerage Calculator works

This calculator adds up every charge on a trade and shows your net profit or loss after costs. Pick a segment (Equity Delivery, Equity Intraday, Futures or Options), enter your buy price, sell price and quantity, and it computes turnover, each charge and your breakeven.

Charges that make up your cost

  • Brokerage: Zero for equity delivery. For intraday and futures it is 0.03% of turnover or ₹20 per side, whichever is lower. Options are a flat ₹20 per side (₹40 round trip).
  • STT: Delivery 0.1% on both buy and sell, intraday 0.025% on sell, futures 0.02% on sell, options 0.1% on sell premium.
  • Exchange transaction charges: Equity 0.00297% of turnover, futures 0.00173%, options 0.03503% of premium turnover.
  • SEBI charges: 0.0001% of turnover, which works out to ₹10 per crore.
  • Stamp duty (buy side only): Delivery 0.015%, intraday 0.003%, futures 0.002%, options 0.003% of buy turnover.
  • GST: 18% on brokerage plus exchange transaction and SEBI charges.
  • DP charges: A flat ₹15.34 on the sell leg for equity delivery only (the depository fee for debiting shares).

Worked example (Equity Delivery)

Buy 1,000 shares at ₹100 and sell at ₹105. Buy turnover is ₹1,00,000 and sell turnover is ₹1,05,000. Brokerage is zero. STT is 0.1% of both sides, so ₹100 plus ₹105 equals ₹205. Exchange transaction charges are about ₹6.09, SEBI charges about ₹0.21, stamp duty is ₹15 (0.015% of buy), GST is about ₹1.13 and DP charge is ₹15.34. Total charges come to roughly ₹243. Your gross profit is ₹5,000, so net profit is about ₹4,757.

Breakeven here is ₹243 divided by 1,000 shares, or about ₹0.24 per share, the move needed just to cover charges.

Note: The exact rates vary by broker and are revised by the exchanges and the government from time to time. Treat these figures as a close estimate and always verify the current charges with your own broker before you trade.
